TotalEnergies has developed a strong expertise in oil and biofuels, natural gas and electricity trading. Trading entities are based in Geneva, Paris, Houston and Singapore.

TotalEnergies installed its European trading hub across in Geneva, which now bring together very large teams around trading activities: TotalEnergies Trading & Shipping (T&S) and TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP).

T&S is the trading company in charge of all physical trading and shipping of crude oil and refined products on behalf of the TotalEnergies. It has been a major and active participant all over the supply chain as well as on the derivatives paper market in order to manage market risk.

What you will do

You will be part of the FIT team (T&S), a team of 7 members with a front status, sitting on the trading floor. The FIT team is responsible for the derivatives pricing library and all its related tools. All trading desks, whether it is physical or paper business, use the library.
The tools provided by the team cover a large range of business-oriented problems (paper trading, exchange markets, pricing methodologies, proxies on illiquid products, physical optionalities, supply & demand, blending, shipping, …) and technical solutions (Excel & VBA, Python, C++, Web-based in React / Django).
The trading floor is a high pace, challenging environment, requiring agility, sharpness and rigour. Good communication, teamwork, multi-tasking are also essential skills.

As a Quantitative Analyst you will be closely working with the traders and on a daily basis, the tasks will be:
  • Participate in the development of models, pricing methods.
  • Develop the tools used by the traders (Excel spreadsheet, web services…)
  • Elaborate structures meeting the client’s needs and analyse along with the trading floor the model risks associated with these structures. Prepare notes for risk approval.
  • Understand needs, exposures and hidden optionalities of physical and paper books.
  • Provide support to the sales and trading for all technical issues.
  • Provide management with indications regarding future development (pricing, IT, digital…)
  • Interact pro-actively with IT and middle office departments regarding the integration of all pricing tools within our global trading system.
  • Understand credit mechanisms and valuations, implications of changes in regulations…
  • Be proactive concerning the development of new models/tools for the trading floor
  • Take part in the merging of activities/models between crude, gas and power desks

Candidate profile

  • You hold a Master’s Degree majoring in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, or quantitative finance discipline
  • You have good technology and you appreciate programming on medium/large projects in Python or C++
  • Having an experience on a trading floor as a developer or quantitative analyst is highly desirable. Strong financial markets knowledge is also seen as an asset.
  • Having Web development skills (React / Django) is an advantage
  • You have good analysis skills and you have a rigorous approach
  • You have good communication skills and a strong sense of synthesis, which enables you to summarize complex problems in a precise and concise way.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Minimum professional proficiency in French is an advantage
  • You have the capacity to stay pragmatic and business oriented
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and to manage deadlines will help you to thrive in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment
